Dr. Melissa Berry-Woods is an accomplished professional with a PhD in Rhetoric and Cultural Studies and a graduate certificate in Human Resource Management. With over 25 years of experience, her work centers on educational development, managing transformative projects, and implementing strategies that facilitate inclusive and equitable work environments.
As a bridge builder, Dr. Berry-Woods strikes immediate and lasting rapport across all cultural, racial, and ethnic divides. She has dedicated her career to researching and teaching Racial Literacy and Concepts of Social Justice, African American and Black Feminist Rhetoric. Her approach to anti-racist learning begins with concepts of positionality and socialization, recognizing that one’s gender, race, class, and cultural experiences matter significantly and contribute to their worldview.
Former Director of Learning Development and Student Success at Northeastern University, Dr. Berry-Woods aspires to transform the institutional culture of diversity, equity, inclusion, antiracism, and belonging for sustainable impact. She is also a wife, mother, and US Army veteran—identities through which she leverages in her work as a Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging strategist.
